My Ethical Clothing Guidebook!

Fast fashion is such a thorny issue, but it’s one we need to confront as consumers! I created this zine (pronounced zeen, like the last syllable in magazine!) as a passion project to educate others about how to shop more conscientiously, ethically, and sustainably as a consumer. I was responsible for each aspect, from the illustrations to the writing and research and distribution.

Research and Development
Color Palette
My hobby for the past few years has been studying fast fashion (lol) so for this project, I didn’t need to do very much additional research. Rather, I pulled together some of my favorite resources – Overdressed by Elizabeth L Cline, The Story of Stuff by Annie Leonard, The True Cost documentary, and others. These were the resources I’ve read or watched that I had found most informative, detailed, and thorough on the issues around consumerism, supply chain, environmental degradation and international human rights. I coupled these resources with my own lived experiences as a citizen navigating the fast fashion cycle and ethical/sustainable clothing conundrum.
Illustrations
I had a lot of fun with the illustrations, opting to include actual clothes from my wardrobe. All illustrations were created using Procreate for the iPad Pro.
